Day 6 - Mae Hong Son

Three hour drive today from Mae Sariang to Mae Hong Son with some spectacular scenery. Lunch by the lake in town then to Fern Resort 7km out of town for an afternoon of relaxing with a cold Chang by the pool.  Bliss.

Day 5 - Mae Sariang

Nice drive to Khun Yuam to visit the Japanese/Thai friendship hall, commemorating the relationship between Thais and Japanese in the second world war as well as historic trading routes with Burma. Interesting stuff.  Quick duck noodle soup and off to see the sunflower fields (unfortunately end of season). Two and a half hour drive back to Mae Sariang,  great winding mountain roads.

Day 4 - Mae Sariang

Picked up Popemobile Mk 2 from Chiang Mai late morning and drove the 160 km to Mae Sariang on route 108 in about three and a half hours.  Riverside guesthouse is just as I remember it but without the torrential rain.  Lazy afternoon drinking on the terrace over looking the river watching  the goats and bison.

Staying in Sleep Guesthouse which is excellent. Didn't do much last night  after flying from Bangkok basically pizza and a couple of long Island iced teas then bed.  Took a three hour city bicycling tour of the city today.  It was very hot but flat all the way.  Off to Sunday walking street market tonight.  Pick up the truck tommmorow to start the Maehongson loop. Five sleeps and 2 T-shirts

Had a great night out with Pealing A, Furness A and Carr A last night in Liverpool. Will definitely be doing it again in the new year. As Alan said sometimes you are never sure about raking up the past but I think we all got on fine and dandy.  Times change, people change but we all shared something in common and  experiences that only we had.  Even if it was being lifted off the ground by your sideboards.

Anyway five sleeps to the land of smiles and two new T shirts to boot
